First: you might want to run Sims File Cop to make sure there are no corrupted files or folders that it can spot. . . If you don't have the Sims File Cop you can download it off the Main Sims Web Site under Make Cool Stuff! (This is optional, but it would be wise to do this before you start messing with your files!) Click here to get Sim File Cop Scroll down a ways and you'll find it!

Second: After you've run Sims File Cop you need to start EliSims (find it here). . . if you downloaded it off the site I gave you it will give you the up-to-date version. . . when you have Eli Sims up and running click on the "objects" tab. . . this will show you all your objects (User Objects, Downloads, etc) There is a small picture box on the lower right hand corner of EliSims that will allow you see a thumbnail view of the picture of the object. . . What you need to do is make sure you DON'T have duplicates of the same objects. . . this WILL make your game crash. . . and that's no fun! Though this will be a tedious task, this is only the beginning.. . but it's very important! You can do this later, but if you do this now you won't have to worry about doing it later!
If, while you peruse EliSims, you find you have more than one of a certain object (and it's the same or almost the same file name) just "remove" it (Please make sure you DO NOT delete Original Maxis items or some of the 3rd Party Objects, that were cloned from these, might not work!

Third: After you've finished with EliSims, make sure you close that program.
Then click on "My Computer" on your Desktop. . . or go to your "Start" on the taskbar and go to "My computer". Click on "C: Drive" then find "Program Files" and click on it. Click on "Maxis" and then Click on "The Sims". (I'm giving these steps because some people do not know how to find their Sims Folder without help. So this is their help area!)

Fourth: Find your "Downloads" File first. Click on this... You'll find a SLEW of .iff files and maybe a .far file or two. . . What you need to do now will take up a LOT of your time!
In a blank space of the folder you're in "RIGHT" click your mouse and "make new folder" Name it something like "Bedrooms". . . do the same thing and make "Livingroom" (I'm just telling you what I did. . . you may want to be creative and make files for separate objects like "beds" "sinks" "chairs" "dining tables", etc. This will take a longer time, but knock yourself out if you HAVE the time! LOL
Here's what I did... I divided my  files into categories:

Bedrooms
Bathrooms
LivingRoom
DiningRoom
Kitchen
Outdoors
Build
Misc

You need to divide up all your downloaded objects into categories (and if one gets into the wrong category, that's okay... at least the computer will have less time READING them!)

After you finish with the "Downloads" category go out and then go to the "GameData" folder. . . (( I messed with the "Skins" files and when I organized them the way I did my objects they didn't show up.. so leave the skins alone!!))
When you're there go to Objects: Repeat the process.
Then go to "User Objects". . . repeat the process here, too!

You may do the same for your Walls and Floor Files. . . but you don't have to. . . . Also, don't worry about "how many" files you put in each folder. . . I put about 50 to 100 or so in each folder. . . (just an example!)
